Itinerary
Today you will be greeted by your private transport driver to depart on your Saharan Serenity Tour from your Marrakech hotel. You will have the privilege of crossing over the beautiful High Atlas Mountains, along the road of 1,000 kasbahs en route to Boumalne Dades. Retire for the evening at your beautiful kasbah and enjoy the Saharan side of Morocco!
Accessibility Notes: The kasbah in Boumalne Dades is vastly accessible with flat grounds and an adapted room. Bathroom stops are scheduled every 2-3 hours with accessible bathrooms along the route.
After a delectable, traditional Moroccan breakfast you head through the picturesque Todra River Valley which makes for a beautiful journey towards the magnificent, colossal Todra Gorges (600 feet). In the afternoon, you will set out across the barren desert land in your 4-wheel drive vehicle. If desired, set off by camel for a 2-hour trek out to the oasis where you will spend the night in Berber tents! Think a camel ride isn’t possible? Think again! Adapted camel saddles are available!**
**Accessibility Notes: The desert experience is considered an adapted experience. Our deluxe Berber tents have poured concrete floors, ramps into the shower and toilet areas and do not have steps to get into the accommodation tents or dining tents. Desert tents are equipped with portable shower chairs and a 3-in-1 toilet chair to provide grab bars as needed. Prior to your arrival, soft sand will be swept away from the paths to allow for you to roll easier on packed earth.
Today you will stay in a riad next to the dunes. This riad is an excellent oasis to relax next to the pool while overlooking the Saharan dunes. If desired, you can take a day trip to Rissani to explore the camel market and encounter what life is like for the Sahrawi people of Morocco.
Accessibility Notes: The riad in Merzouga is a generally flat riad with few barriers. There is a small and fairly steep ramp to access the pool area but is accessible, generally, with assistance.
After a traditional Berber breakfast, you will depart from the Sahara en route to Ouarzazate. Enjoy the rugged rock formations and unique barren landscape until you reach Ouarzazate. Ouarzazate is home to an active film studio that has filmed several famous movies including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. If desired in the afternoon, take a tour of the studio and get a behind-the-scenes look at film making!
Accessibility Notes: The Atlas Film Studios is considered to have partial accessibility. The tour is flat but does not have paved grounds so the path of travel is a bit rough. Some of the exhibits are not accessible by wheelchair but the vast majority can be enjoyed from a wheelchair.
Today you will head to Marrakech for your final tour day. Along the way, you will stop at Ait Ben Haddou – a famous ksar made of earthen clay structures built into the side of a rock – that is the backdrop of several famous movies. Made famous by the likes of movies and TV shows such as Gladiator, The Passion of Christ, and Game of Thrones, Aït Ben Haddou is well worth a visit. If desired, rent the Joelette Trekking Wheelchair and explore the kasbah in style! Two assistants, a trekking wheelchair, and an adventurous spirit are all it takes to explore Aït Ben Haddou! Afterward, you will cross over the High Atlas Mountains on your return to Marrakech.
Your personal driver will then drop you off at the airport or otherwise arranged location so your journey can continue.
Accessibility Notes: Ait Ben Haddou is generally inaccessible to wheelchairs. In order to enjoy a tour of the kasbah, we recommend renting the Joelette Trekking Wheelchair (which includes 2 assistants) for this tour. This 1.5-2 hour experience will allow you truly encounter the famous Ait Ben Haddou.
