Itinerary

The easiest way to reach Prince George is to fly into the Prince George Airport and rent a car. With at least 48 hours’ notice, vehicles with hand controls, left-foot accelerators, spinner knobs, and pedal extenders are available.
Another, ultra-scenic option is a train journey. The Jasper-Prince Rupert route makes an overnight stop in Prince George. There is also a reduced service from Vancouver. Anyone requiring the use of mobility devices can access trains at Jasper, Prince George, Terrace, and Prince Rupert.
Once settled into your Prince George accommodations, you’re free to relax and explore your surroundings.
Whether it’s the first thing you do when you arrive or the last before you leave, no trip to Prince George is complete without a souvenir photo of you posing with Mr. PG, an 8-m (27-ft) tall statue that represents the importance of the forestry industry to the local economy.

Today you might want to visit the Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum which looks at the role played by rail travel and forestry in the area. Explore historic buildings, locomotives and rolling stock, logging machinery, communication devices, fire-fighting equipment, and more. The massive collection of locomotives and railcars is particularly impressive.
The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum is situated on the ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh Nation. Located in the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers, we are honored to live, work, and play on the beautiful, and vast territory.
The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum is home to many locomotives, rolling stock and heritage railway buildings. Most are open to visitors to go into and explore. Many of our pieces were used in rail lines that pass through or are connected to Central BC. These include the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway, Pacific Great Eastern Railway and BC Rail.

Approximately 90 minutes east on Highway 16 is the renowned Ancient Forest Trail/Chun T’oh Whudujut, where you can find towering old-growth trees that have stood there since time immemorial. Enjoy a bite in the covered gazebo before striking out along the 400-m (1300-ft) wheelchair-accessible boardwalk (other boardwalks in the park can accommodate various levels of mobility). Watch for interpretive signage to learn about the park’s ecology.
Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Whudujut Park is British Columbia’s newest park and is quickly becoming one of the “must do” parks to see and hike in British Columbia.
Nestled in the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, the park protects a portion of the only inland temperate rainforest in the world. Hiking the Ancient Forest trail will bring you past thousand-year-old western redcedars and a rich biodiversity of plants, mosses, lichens, and fungi.
The 450-meter-long universal access boardwalk provides the opportunity for people with all abilities to experience this majestic area. Another 2.3 km of boardwalk provides access to magnificent “Big” Tree, Tree Beard, Radies Tree and a beautiful cascading waterfall.
